Villa Vergelle

Villa Vergelle is a contemporary villa, originally built under SpecialItaly’s management in 2012 and fully refurbished in 2023. Nestled in the heart of Val d’Orcia, a UNESCO World Heritage site in Tuscany, the property is within easy reach of the Renaissance towns of Montalcino, Pienza, and Montepulciano.

The villa is strikingly unique: its warm brick exterior contrasts with a minimal, industrial-inspired interior, creating a space that is both sleek and welcoming. When we first encountered the property, we found an iron structure with brickwork, a rare feature in the traditional Val d’Orcia landscape. To honor this distinctive character, the owners and our design team decided to leave as much of the original structure visible as possible, inspiring the overall interior concept.

Inside, the villa features concrete floors, Tadelakt-finished bathrooms, and large windows and doors that enhance the open, airy layout. The centerpiece is a handcrafted kitchen in reclaimed wood, whose warm tones perfectly balance the cool grey resin countertops, creating a welcoming hub for the home. The design seamlessly blends modernity with a nod to the property’s historic character, while maintaining a flowing, indoor-outdoor ethos ideal for holiday living.

The villa sits within a mature garden framed by tall cypress trees, oaks, and pines. A heated 12m x 6m pool with a child-friendly automatic cover is set on a terrace below the house, surrounded by designer pool furniture.

Villa Vergelle offers five en-suite bedrooms, four doubles and a charming bunk room crafted from original wood, along with 100 sqm of ground-floor living space. Double doors at either end open to the garden, connecting a central, high-spec kitchen, a dining area with a double-sided fireplace, and a spacious sitting room, making the home perfect for gatherings or quiet retreats alike.

The 2023 refurbishment added a basement with two additional suites and refreshed all living areas, further enhancing the property’s comfort and style. Every element, from structural details to finishes, reflects a careful balance between modern luxury and traditional Tuscan charm.
