Le Sorelle

Le Sorelle is a beautifully restored villa where original architecture and contemporary design meet timeless Tuscan charm

Le Sorelle is a delightful villa for seven that sits in the hills outside Lucca, not far from the Versilia coast. Restored in collaboration with the Specialitaly team in 2018, the house is a charming mix of original features and contemporary comfort.

Beautiful cotto floors and high wooden ceilings in perfectly proportioned rooms combine with a soft, powdery colour palette, natural linen fabrics and made-to-measure furniture to create a spacious yet warm interior. Carefully considered lighting, original artwork and handpicked books add to the cosy and inviting atmosphere.

Large windows and doors offer stunning views of the garden, olive groves and the Tuscan hills beyond. The garden is as carefully designed as the interior of the house and is authentic Italia at its best: Mediterranean oaks, cypress and olive trees, lemon trees in pots and a saltwater pool straight out of the pages of a magazine. Choose between the three different terraces for eating, sitting and relaxing, offering sun and shade alike.

While summer here is exquisite, Le Sorelle is equally attractive in the quieter months thanks to gentler temperatures, fewer tourists and a landscape that changes with the seasons.

Lucca, one of Italy’s most beautiful towns, is just 14km away, and the Versilia coast is less than half an hour by car. Le Sorelle is a house designed for guests to relax and recharge, and its location means that in the same day you can admire both the clear blue of the Tyrrhenian Sea and some of the world’s most iconic Renaissance art and architecture, returning to the welcoming comfort of this enchanting property.

Rooms description

Bedrooms

Le Sorelle has three double bedrooms upstairs. Downstairs is a smaller room, ideal for one adult or two children, with views over the garden and a shower within the bedroom. All the rooms have air-conditioning and central heating and the deeply comfortable beds are made up with beautiful cool linens. There are mosquito coverings on the windows and plenty of storage space in made-to-measure wardrobes.

Bathrooms

There are four showers in total: two en-suites upstairs and a separate family shower room, plus a shower within the single room downstairs. The showers’ simple resin floors and walls are matched by modern stainless steel fittings. Please note, there are no baths in this property.

Kitchen

The clean white lines of the modern kitchen sit effortlessly in their traditional setting. A large central island houses the sink and five-burner gas hob, while the oven is on the wall behind. Light and airy with double doors on both sides, leading towards the pool or the outside dining tables and herb garden, there is plenty of room for everyone. Well equipped and with Smeg appliances, this is a kitchen designed as much for guests who love to cook as for those who prefer to leave it to a professional chef.

Living rooms

The kitchen, dining room and sitting room flow into each other but each retain their own character and space. The central dining room is simple yet sophisticated, with a custom-built dresser on one wall. The living area is cosy and elegant with a white linen corner sofa and comfortable armchairs, all brought together with richly textured fabrics in soft colours, art, lighting and coffee table books to lose yourself in.

Outside

The gardens at Le Sorelle wrap around the house and blend in with the surrounding hills and olive groves. Lemon, cypress and olive trees provide a rich, green background and there are three terraces cleverly designed to benefit from the sun and the shade. At the back of the house doors from the kitchen open onto the walled garden with a dining table under the pergola, a BBQ area with herbs that guests can pick and another dining table that seats 12 in the shade of a centuries-old oak tree that is the perfect setting for long lunches and dinners. At the front of the house, near the former entrance gate, are low, comfortable cushioned chairs and a big parasol. The saltwater 11m x 5m pool is on a lower terrace protected by a stone wall on one side and with views from the surrounding loungers of the wooded hills beyond. The outside spaces are pretty beyond description with different 'rooms' depending on the time of day and the direction of the sun.

Leisure & Activities

Activities

Le Sorelle is wonderfully serene, making it an easy place to unwind. Its fabulous location makes it easy to explore the many different sides of Tuscany, too. Located along the famous Strade del Vino e dell’Olio (the wine and olive oil route), start by heading out by bike or car for tastings at nearby vineyards and olive groves.

The walled city of Lucca (14km) is a gem that manages to fly under the radar more readily than its more famous neighbours. Here, medieval towers, palazzos and piazzas provide the backdrop for wonderful cafes, bars and restaurants, a flourishing art scene and, as the birthplace of Puccini, some excellent opera opportunities.

The Versilia coast is just 40 minutes away - head to Lido di Camaiore, Marina di Pietrasanta or Forte dei Marmi.

Charming villages such as Barga and Borgo a Mozzano are worth exploring in the hills around Lucca and families will find plenty of options to keep children entertained, from Pinocchio Park in Collodi to local water parks.

Golf, horse riding, padel and tennis are all available nearby.

Specials

We are happy to organise any of the following during your stay at Le Sorelle: private chef; grocery shopping prior to arrival; wine and olive oil tastings; massages; yoga instructor; personal trainer; babysitting; E-bike rental; transfers; boat trips; and a tourist guide. Please contact us for suggestions, availability and prices.

Happenings

Flower markets, antiques markets and seasonal fairs bring colour and life to Lucca and the surrounding towns throughout the year - let us know what interests you and we can give you the details. The Lucca Summer Festival is a must, bringing major international artists, such as Mariah Carey, to the town in July - it's well worth booking tickets in advance. Likewise for the Puccini festival in Torre del Lago which celebrates the composer in a spectacular open-air setting on various dates in July and August, while autumn brings Lucca Comics & Games, one of the city's biggest annual events. If seaside floats are more your thing, come for Carnival in Viareggio - one of the oldest in Italy.

Perfect hygiene: to ensure an exceptional level of hygiene in all our villas, we’ve worked with our owners to create a Covid-19 villa management protocol. Based on recommendations from the World Health Organisation, and in compliance with current Italian national law, this protocol goes above and beyond our usual rigorous cleaning standards.

Prior to arrival, your villa will have been fully sanitised, including all surfaces, objects, kitchen items, curtains, sofas, throws, pillows, toys, and in and around the pool. You are welcome to ask for a detailed list of the entire cleaning procedure we do after each departure and before welcoming new guests to the property.

The owner of this house has complied with the following standards:

  • To ensure the necessary information concerning social distancing and the use of masks is available to all guests
  • To guarantee availability of and accessibility to hand hygiene systems with hydro-alcoholic solutions and soaps in all inside areas of, and pertaining to, the villa
  • To guarantee cleaning and disinfection of all areas according to national authority guidelines. Further information is available on request
  • For the swimming pool: to guarantee the efficacy of the water treatments, while respecting legal limits (the parameter for free active chlorine in the pool is between 1.0 – 1.5 mg/l; combined chlorine ≤ 0.40 mg/l; pH 6.5 – 7.5 or equivalent oxygen)
  • For air conditioning systems: to guarantee the air re-circulation function is switched off and, according to the manufacturer’s instructions, with the plant in off-mode, to clean the air filters of the heating/cooling plants that use heat pumps, fan coils and convectors, at the end of each stay
