crudo
This teetering stack of curves and angles is a calm and comfortable Sicilian retreat
Crudo is a fabulous modern villa for six sandwiched between the hills and the sea close to the baroque towns of southeast Sicily.
The layered design is architecturally bold with curves softening the angles, and a slim infinity pool boldly balanced on top with a showstopping flourish.
Equally impressive is the connection to its location. From above it’s hard to see that there’s even a house here. It appears to rise out of the land, with the local travertine stone used in its walls and floors.
The thoughtfulness of the design shines through in the division of space. The living area is on the upper layer to take in the views and the exterior, while the bedrooms are below, offering privacy and calm, with warm wood softening the light.
This is a retreat for a group of friends or family who value design that celebrates form and function, and comfort, too. The location close to the baroque town of Noto and the beaches of the Vendicari nature reserve is as excellent as the villa itself.
