Augusta

A contemporary, coastal villa for eight that’s perfect for a mixed group of family or friends

Augusta is a contemporary villa for eight in the hills near Noto, the beautiful white baroque town low down on Sicily’s east coast.
The house sleeps eight guests, six in three double rooms on the first floor and there’s a separate bedroom in the annex overlooking the pool, making it the perfect choice for a mix of generations.
The living space and the kitchen occupy the length of the ground floor and include local materials such as marble and terrazzo. Flooded with natural light from the floor to ceiling glass on either side of the building, the design of the outside spaces is equally well executed as those inside, with the two merging subtly.
The 15m-long infinity pool has Instagram-worthy views over the dune-like hills studded with olive trees to the sea which is just five minutes away by car.
This is a house that encompasses all the brilliance of the Mediterranean’s biggest island. Head into Noto, Modica or Syracusa for a drink, dinner or to gaze at the baroque architecture, remembering to dip into the cool of the interiors. Spend a day at a beach club or discover the wilder shores of the Vendicari Nature Reserve, go for a wine tasting or simply relax by the pool admiring the view.

Leisure & Activities

Activities

The breathtaking beaches of Sicily’s south-eastern corner are just 15 minutes away by car. Lido di Noto (8km) is perfect for those who like the convenience of a beachside restaurant, while the beaches inside the Vendicari Nature Reserve are wild and unspoilt and include Eloro, Pizzuta, Calamosche, San Lorenzo and, if you’d rather throw caution to the wind, as well as your clothes, Marianelli. For a round of golf, the 18-hole I Monasteri course is half an hour away.

Noto and the surrounding area has a long history of producing wines, in particular Nero d’Avola, a red, and its white counterpart, Moscato Bianco. Head for a vineyard and cellar tour, or a tasting at a winery, or if you’d rather skip straight to a glass try somewhere along Corso Vittoria Emmanuelle in Noto for the best people watching. If archaeology is more your thing, you’re in for a treat.

This corner of Italy is often thought to be more Greek than Greece itself: head to the Valle dei Templi in Agrigento with its beautiful Greek temples. For Roman mosaics, the Villa del Casale in Piazza Armerina is the place, and Donnafugata Castle, the Kamarina archeological site, Cava d’Ispica, Portopalo and Scala dei Turchi are all worth your while. Alternatively, you could climb Mount Etna.

Specials

Surroundings

The stunning baroque town of Noto is just five minutes from the villa by car. It’s one of the most charming spots in Italy and its centro storico is worthy of a film set. Go in the late afternoon when the 18th century sandstone walls glow ochre and the people-watching is at its best. You’ll also be wooed by its colourful interiors and fabulous array of restaurants that offer everything from pizzas to fine dining, all using beautiful, slow-grown local ingredients. The local landscape and towns will be instantly recognisable to those familiar with the Montalbano stories, including Scicli on which the fictional Vigàta is based. Syracusa (32km) is of archaeological interest and is matched in its splendour by both Ragusa (68km) and Modica (40km) - the latter is known as the city of 100 churches and is famed for its chocolate production. The island of Ortigia is another gem of pretty, medieval streets, heaving with history, while Marzamemi (25km) is a traditional fishing village with delightful restaurants.

To prevent any possible spread of Covid-19 and to enable you to enjoy a safe and relaxing holiday, all our villas are cleaned to the highest standard possible, and according to the latest Italian health and safety regulations.

Perfect hygiene: to ensure an exceptional level of hygiene in all our villas, we’ve worked with our owners to create a Covid-19 villa management protocol. Based on recommendations from the World Health Organisation, and in compliance with current Italian national law, this protocol goes above and beyond our usual rigorous cleaning standards.

Prior to arrival, your villa will have been fully sanitised, including all surfaces, objects, kitchen items, curtains, sofas, throws, pillows, toys, and in and around the pool. You are welcome to ask for a detailed list of the entire cleaning procedure we do after each departure and before welcoming new guests to the property.

The owner of this house has complied with the following standards:

  • To ensure the necessary information concerning social distancing and the use of masks is available to all guests
  • To guarantee availability of and accessibility to hand hygiene systems with hydro-alcoholic solutions and soaps in all inside areas of, and pertaining to, the villa
  • To guarantee cleaning and disinfection of all areas according to national authority guidelines. Further information is available on request
  • For the swimming pool: to guarantee the efficacy of the water treatments, while respecting legal limits (the parameter for free active chlorine in the pool is between 1.0 – 1.5 mg/l; combined chlorine ≤ 0.40 mg/l; pH 6.5 – 7.5 or equivalent oxygen)
  • For air conditioning systems: to guarantee the air re-circulation function is switched off and, according to the manufacturer’s instructions, with the plant in off-mode, to clean the air filters of the heating/cooling plants that use heat pumps, fan coils and convectors, at the end of each stay
