Villa Cucco

A beautifully appointed contemporary lamia with views over olive groves to the Adriatic

Villa Cucco is an elegant white villa close to both Ostuni and Carovigno in the heart of the Istria Valley. Recently renovated, it is a clever mix of traditional Puglian architecture and modern design. The finish is beautiful, made even more so by the fact that it’s just for four guests.

Its crisp, whitewashed interior is home to art and design pieces by up-and-coming artists, as well as pieces brought home from travels abroad. This is a house that is both welcoming and unfussy and one that’s homely in all seasons thanks to air conditioning and underfloor heating throughout, as well as a woodburning stove in the sitting room.

The stunning green garden was designed by Studio Paz, a local, award-winning design practice and includes gravel landscaping with Mediterranean planting and a raised, saltwater infinity pool with a large surrounding terrace. Dine on the veranda in front of the house while watching the sailing boats on the horizon or head up onto the roof to catch the soft pink glow of the disappearing light over Ostuni in the evening.

This is very special place to come as a small group – it’s entirely private allowing you to properly switch off and relax, interspersed with little forays to the pretty Puglian towns nearby and to the Adriatic coast just 15' minutes away.

See our tips page for more information about Puglia and what there is to see and do.

Leisure & Activities

Activities

You can’t come to Puglia without heading to the coast. Just 20 minutes’ drive from the house you’ll find the Adriatic shoreline that alternates between the rocky outcrops of the Torre Guaceto Nature Reserve and breathtaking sandy beaches. Carovigno is often overlooked in favour of better-known Ostuni, but this delightful town with its pretty piazza comes alive at Easter, in August and at Christmas with all manner of festivities. Be sure to ask about local antiques markets which are often the first Sunday of the month and take a tour of the magnificent Baroque architecture in the surrounding towns. If you like ceramics, Grottaglie is a must. There are vineyards and olive groves where tastings and tours are possible, local padel courts, and for a round of golf, the nearest course is San Domenico, at Savelletri di Fasano, 41km away.

Specials

Local property management would be delighted to help you plan the details of your stay at Villa Cucco in advance. The following are available on request: private chef, regional cooking classes, nanny, driver, boat rental, horse riding, massage therapist, yoga instructor, personal trainer, wine tours and a tourist guide.

Please feel free to consult our PUGLIA TIPS and Puglia Guide in order to make your stay even more special.

Some local places we personally love a lot:

Enoteca Il Cucco, Cisternino. Lovely design and a very good creative kitchen. In Summer you eat in the garden. The best collection of local wines and from all over Italy.

Giardini36, Cisternino. Our favorite for many years. Davide and Katia run this very well designed place just out of town together. Katia cooks in the open kitchen and most of the ingredients come from their own land. All fresh and daily changing menus.

Burro Cafe in Ostuni. This is your place for the morning breakfast. Stylish and the best rolls, cakes and light lunches. In season they organize long table dinners during the weekens. Follow their page for the details.

If you want to shop some nice design, stylish ceramics and small presents to bring home visit Civico3design. You don't know what to choose as all has something particular.

Discover coastal Monopoli (52km) with its Baroque castle and cathedral or head an hour west to the Ionian coast with its sandy beaches and lidos. Lecce (75km), otherwise known as the Florence of the south, is a must - it’s one of the most beautiful cities in the south of Italy and heralded for its Baroque splendour. To prevent any possible spread of Covid-19 and to enable you to enjoy a safe and relaxing holiday, all our villas are cleaned to the highest standard possible, and according to the latest Italian health and safety regulations.

Perfect hygiene: to ensure an exceptional level of hygiene in all our villas, we’ve worked with our owners to create a Covid-19 villa management protocol. Based on recommendations from the World Health Organisation, and in compliance with current Italian national law, this protocol goes above and beyond our usual rigorous cleaning standards.

Prior to arrival, your villa will have been fully sanitised, including all surfaces, objects, kitchen items, curtains, sofas, throws, pillows, toys, and in and around the pool. You are welcome to ask for a detailed list of the entire cleaning procedure we do after each departure and before welcoming new guests to the property.

The owner of this house has complied with the following standards:

  • To ensure the necessary information concerning social distancing and the use of masks is available to all guests
  • To guarantee availability of and accessibility to hand hygiene systems with hydro-alcoholic solutions and soaps in all inside areas of, and pertaining to, the villa
  • To guarantee cleaning and disinfection of all areas according to national authority guidelines. Further information is available on request
  • For the swimming pool: to guarantee the efficacy of the water treatments, while respecting legal limits (the parameter for free active chlorine in the pool is between 1.0 – 1.5 mg/l; combined chlorine ≤ 0.40 mg/l; pH 6.5 – 7.5 or equivalent oxygen)
  • For air conditioning systems: to guarantee the air re-circulation function is switched off and, according to the manufacturer’s instructions, with the plant in off-mode, to clean the air filters of the heating/cooling plants that use heat pumps, fan coils and convectors, at the end of each stay
