Loliva

This sleek, single-storey property is a sculptural delight of natural materials and colours inside, while the bright white exterior and azure pool reflect its stunning coastal location

Just a short drive from the rocky coves and white sandy beaches of this exquisitely beautiful and relatively untouched part of Puglia is Loliva, a smooth white villa with sculptural architectural lines and an azure-blue pool.

Sleeping eight in four en-suite rooms, the house is a sleek and contemporary celebration of rustic living, reflected in the use of natural materials such as wood, stone, linen and rope. Much of the interior build uses free-form design and it is decorated in a rich, earthy colour palette that reflects the surrounding landscape.

The smooth walls and floors look like they have been poured into place and are the perfect backdrop to a barefoot holiday existence of rest and relaxation, punctuated by delicious meals using fresh local ingredients, cooling swims in the saltwater pool and aperitivi watching the sun set over the sea from the rooftop terrace.

The space, privacy and comfort of Loliva is matched by its wonderful location. The beaches and coves of this mesmerising coastline are easily reached and guests can also enjoy wine tastings and tours in some of the area’s celebrated vineyards, or excursions to Lecce, Otranto and other Salentine towns with their rich cultural and architectural heritage.

Rooms description

Bedrooms

There are four en-suite bedrooms: one in the main building, and three in the adjoining buildings with access to the garden.
The rooms are simply decorated in earthy tones with sculptural driftwood headboards or draped linen canopies and light fixtures crafted from wood. There are three king-size doubles and one twin room with fabulous four-poster beds in a bold desert orange.

Bathrooms

There are four en-suite bathrooms, all with showers and two with a bath, as well. Smooth Moroccan-style walls in earthy colours continue and form the shower walls, the sculptural form being matched by functional niches for lotions and potions as well as hi-spec fixtures and fittings. One of the baths is flush with a large picture window making for a soak with a spectacular view towards the sea.

Kitchen

The spacious, open-plan central room combines the villa’s living, dining and kitchen areas. All on one level and with a smooth floor perfect for bare feet, it is a welcoming space that celebrates natural materials and forms. Understated in style yet expertly equipped, the kitchen has everything guests might need to make anything from a simple breakfast to a full-on feast. Flooded with light from three slim windows behind the smoothly sculpted island and from the sliding glass doors on one side of the room and the Critall-style doors on the other, the free-form design includes a huge plywood cupboard with rustic tree branch handles. A wine fridge and Lavazza espresso machine provide just the right level of sophistication and comfort to counterbalance the rustic aesthetic. An oval fire stove on a pillar in the middle of the room warms the villa in the cooler months and near it is the indoor dining table that seats eight. Outside, a larger dining table for 12 in the shade provides the perfect place for long al fresco meals with views of three beautiful Puglian blues: pool, sky and sea

Living rooms

As part of the main room, the living area is a comfy spot to relax out of the heat of the summer sun or near the woodburning stove out of season. A simple space with a sofa and chairs is all that is required given the various outside lounge areas, including a day bed on the roof terrace, an outdoor sitting room on the terrace, and sun loungers, easy chairs and even a hammock that are dotted around the garden.

Outside

Guests arriving at Loliva need only drive a short distance from the coast to find the villa amongst the olive groves. Traditional stone walls surround the 10,000sqm of private grounds where there are two entrances, both accessed via electric gates. From above it seems that the house slots together like pieces of a puzzle laid out on a smooth terrace base that circles the building. A curved stairway leads up to the roof terrace which offers the perfect spot to watch the sun set. Mediterranean planting, including cactus plants and ancient olive trees, add sculptural form and there are lots of places to sit or lie, including a hammock, sun loungers and chairs. A 12-seater outdoor dining table in the shade of the pergola is close to the house and looks out over the 10m x 4m saltwater swimming pool. Here there is an outdoor shower threaded through the gnarled trunk of an old olive tree. There is a ping pong table in the shade, a BBQ and more than enough space for everyone to find a little peace and quiet.

To prevent any possible spread of Covid-19 and to enable you to enjoy a safe and relaxing holiday, all our villas are cleaned to the highest standard possible, and according to the latest Italian health and safety regulations.

Perfect hygiene: to ensure an exceptional level of hygiene in all our villas, we’ve worked with our owners to create a Covid-19 villa management protocol. Based on recommendations from the World Health Organisation, and in compliance with current Italian national law, this protocol goes above and beyond our usual rigorous cleaning standards.

Prior to arrival, your villa will have been fully sanitised, including all surfaces, objects, kitchen items, curtains, sofas, throws, pillows, toys, and in and around the pool. You are welcome to ask for a detailed list of the entire cleaning procedure we do after each departure and before welcoming new guests to the property.

The owner of this house has complied with the following standards:

  • To ensure the necessary information concerning social distancing and the use of masks is available to all guests
  • To guarantee availability of and accessibility to hand hygiene systems with hydro-alcoholic solutions and soaps in all inside areas of, and pertaining to, the villa
  • To guarantee cleaning and disinfection of all areas according to national authority guidelines. Further information is available on request
  • For the swimming pool: to guarantee the efficacy of the water treatments, while respecting legal limits (the parameter for free active chlorine in the pool is between 1.0 – 1.5 mg/l; combined chlorine ≤ 0.40 mg/l; pH 6.5 – 7.5 or equivalent oxygen)
  • For air conditioning systems: to guarantee the air re-circulation function is switched off and, according to the manufacturer’s instructions, with the plant in off-mode, to clean the air filters of the heating/cooling plants that use heat pumps, fan coils and convectors, at the end of each stay
