Camporlando 1812
A careful restoration of this delightful villa has added understated luxury to traditional, warm charm
Camporlando 1812 is an elegant 19th-century villa just north of Ceglie Messapica, surrounded by olive groves, almond orchards and vineyards, and bathed in pretty Puglian light.
The pale stone house has recently been carefully restored with a delightfully gentle touch. The brick-vaulted ceilings, original stone staircase and traditional double wooden doors remain, and chequerboard tiles in the rich earthy colours of the surrounding landscape are the motif that runs throughout the interior, from the kitchen floor to the bathroom basin splashback, maintaining an authenticity that puts guests immediately at ease.
Sleeping 8 in 3 doubles on the first floor, a single on the ground floor and another double in the separate lamia, it’s big but not unwelcomingly vast. In fact, the pervading feel is of calm relaxation with comfy beds made up with old-fashioned linens, angled reading lights by DCW éditions, a winter sitting room with fireplace on the first floor flooded with sunshine and an enclosed stone courtyard downstairs.
Admire the colours of this beguiling landscape from a lounger by the pool or at the outdoor dining table and take your pick from the kitchen garden. Nip to neighbouring towns for provisions, to stroll their baroque streets and to enjoy the authentic charm of this southern region. And don’t forget to explore the coast, enjoying the warm sea and the hidden coves.
